#15 Back in Your Arms by Bruce Springsteen

We can’t take for granted that what we have will always be there. When it comes to love and relationships, we must work at what we have. We must constantly be supporting the foundation of our love and always working to make our connections deeper and more meaningful.

The nature of relationships is that they evolve. Each person changes and grows by themselves, and the couple changes together. What was there at the beginning hopefully still remains, but it remains along with a better understanding of one another, a familiarity that no one else shares with you.

Within that familiarity lies the danger. The danger of becoming complacent. The danger of letting time pass by while the promises we made to ourselves and each other, when our love was desperate and new, grow “empty as the howlin’ wind”, is a real threat to losing what we most cherish. Becoming consumed with life and with our own dark inner voices, we can be pulled into ourselves and neglect the person we at one time could not live without.

When life takes us to that quiet place where we have a moment to reflect on what we truly want and need, hopefully we do not find ourselves longing to be back in a place that may be too far gone.
